OVERVIEW

Michelle came to the industry on the off-chance after calling into the tannery to see if there were any jobs available. She was interviewed on the spot and 2O years later , is still working for the company. Her first impression of the tannery was that it was interesting and, in spite of thinking that it would not be a long-term position, the variety of work and working conditions has led to her staying.

She started in the packing and grading departments and is now responsible for dispatch of the product, ensuring that customer orders go out when they should. She enjoys her work as it keeps her on her toes and she also enjoys working within the team that she manages. She had previously worked in a supermarket but finds that working in the tannery is much better because of the day to day variety of the work. She also says that working for a family-owned business is an ‘absolute pleasure’.

Michelle loves her job and would encourage others to ‘Have an open mind and give it a go’. She feels the work is very interesting and that, after 20 years at the tannery, she is still learning about the product.

Have an open mind and give it a go!
