OVERVIEW

1.    How did you come to the leather industry?
I opted for the specialization of Chemical Technology of Textile Products, Leather and Substitutes (1976) within the Faculty of Industrial Chemistry of Iasi Polytechnic Institute “Gheorghe Asachi”.
2.    What is the job that you are performing in the leather industry?
Technology engineer, Doctor in chemistry, 1st degree Scientific Researcher.
3.    What qualifications or training did you do to be there?
Iasi Polytechnic Institute, Faculty of  Industrial Chemistry Section: Chemical Technology of Textile Products, Leather and Substitutes (1977-1982)
4.    What do you most appreciate in your job?
The daily challenges related to both leather processing as well as the research regarding leather chemistry, synthesis of new ecofriendly materials, measures to protect the environment and individuals, all integrated into the new technical, economic and social context through membership of European Union.
Art, tradition, culture and science are shared today to societies across the globe through leather.
Leather is part of our lives every day we come into contact with objects made of leather which make our life more comfortable (from shoes, living room, sofas or car seats, to glasses pouch).
All workers from this industry regardless of their level of professional training, but above all people conducting scientific research, must contribute to increasing eco-efficiency and implicitly to the continuation of tannery functioning consistent to international requirements, which require environmental performance, without neglecting the economic and social ones.
One can conclude that the occupation of leather processing is a happy combination between crafting, science and art, its practicing offering multiple possibilities for personal development of each practitioner.
