The event gathered people related to the
leather industry, representatives of Universities, Secondary Schools, public
entities as well as the population in general.
During the morning, visits were made to:
-
a modern leather
industry (Inducol, SA) that manufactures fur leathers, mainly to clothing and it
exports about 90% of its production;

a Waste Water
Treatment Plant which collects the effluents of about 80 leather industries in
Alcanena;
-
the landfills to
sludges and leather solid wastes.
During the afternoon a Seminary under
the theme “Science and Technology in the Leather Industry” took place in
CTIC – Leather Technological Centre, with a very interested audience of 130
people, of which nearly half were young students (see hereunder for speeches).
At the end of the day work the participants had
the opportunity to know in details the evolution that has occurred in the
leather industry, concerning its several aspects, since the employed
technologies to the link with the fashion world, as well as the most recent
leather uses, such as in the car and aeronautics industry.
The efforts made in the environmental
branch were stressed considering the investments that have been being made on
the infrastructures previously mentioned.
